For those seeking some decent compression drivers that don`t cost fortune, I can suggest to try the Eighteen Sound ND1460A compression driver. It has aluminum dome and polyester suspension and 1,4 inch exit throat. Does it sound like S2 ? Probably no...
First of all, I want to note that when somebody lives on the principle of denying everything, he risks to live in his own encapsulated world, build according to his own principles in order to feel comfortable there. [/q...
SG505TT + S150 horn crossover at 180 Hz is not recommended by GOTO. The SG505TT driver is not recommended to use with single throat S150 horn. Double SG505TT driver is recommended to use with single...

Don't worry Romy, I know exactly what you mean. I tend to discount the opinion of anyone who raves about a system's ability to play back patricia barber. Speaking of which, if I were in her shoes, bunions and corns aside, I'd be mildly...

Romy, You make all very good points. I probably shouldn't call the front of the driver a phasing plug, because actually the long wavelengths really don't care much about the shape of the exit, they will just pass right through...

It is depends what kind horn it is. For LF horn the resonance should not be “an octave lower then lowest frequency you can realistically get from the horn”. In fact the common way is to much the assembly resonance to the horn cut off by squashi...

I see, I misunderstood you, Robert. I was under impression that you “speak horns” and that you have lived with variety of horn-loaded playbacks and ideas and now you have decided to go for making your own compression drivers. If you did not and it wo...

Mr. Lang, very interesting what you are talking about cones. Does your company or you personally have a capacity to do custom aluminium Görlich–like cones by customer specification? I ask because I have some interest in the subject. I was approached ...

Nope, it was not a joke. For sure it is not the “whole point in a compression driver” but it is very much derivative from the compression driver design and anything that a compression driver has on back is irrelevant and impact only resonance frequen...
…. acoustic filter does not rotate electrical phase of the signal.
I do not think it is correct. The rotation of electrical phase is not the subject of filtration method but subject of slop and Q. Of you write the sam...

I had many interesting listening experiences while I used the Water Drop’s Macondo. I would try to surmise briefly the sonic consequences of the Water Drooping. “Me” and “briefly”, would it be possible? Well, where did you see a Jewish boy who refuse...

One of the emails that I receive is very interesting. The author warns: “...when experimenting with throaths I found that if the compression is big, near 2 or higher you get some big, smooth, unfocused aqualung sound. You are never scared at listen...

Here is the list of the thing to do with Vitavox S2 in order to use it in 4-ways installations. The S2 must not be used in 2, 3 ways systems. It possible to do with S2 whatever you wish but pretty much any other way to utilize them produces some very...

Here are some photos of Martin Sedon's 204Hz and 340Hz Le Cleac'h horns, which likely have more reasonable shipping charges and fit through doorways, etc. better than the 160Hz version. They have a T-factor (expansion rate) of T = 0.8, which was reco...

MochaMike, yes you are correct it would not be the “softness” but rather”liquidity”. Still what you are taking is applicable for the paper cone 4 to 15" drivers not compression drivers. Who knows how the compression drivers will react.
To the rest ...
At first I plan to power the thing SET, with a known, existing amp (a triode wired EL84) which I've already built and know the Sound. It is not bad, but a little "warm" sounding (second harmonics, and is low powe...

Well, I do not like the ESD debut. It was not well though
and not well executed. The sound that they demonstrated is kind of less relevant.
Sound look like was nothing interesting to say the last, sorry it is too obvious

A few months ago a reader of my site contacted me and informed about that he found a very interesting driver, that his is using and he is very excited about it. The driver is JBL 2490.

compression drivers are the way to go as far as i am concerned but obviously performance depends on the horn lens.
Your response is a very good illustration of how you redirect attention away from the actual discussing subject and point it to a completely different direction that has absolutely no relation to that subject. You asked me wh...
For years, I used to have passive line level filters and tube amps - single ended 45's and 2A3's.
To make a long story short I am much happier now. Screw tubes ! ( Don't hate me. )
I had another thought. High excusion might create lots of distortion in a compression chamber. No surprise.
But in my oppinion the sizes are often not in proportion. Lets calculate......
Thanks, Scott L. I get the math, and no doubt hearing is believing. Still, I do know for certain that "a driver" can be influenced by a defined amount of trapped air in an enclosure, at least as far as the sound that comes from ...

Nice to see someone actually try it. I know that fast rates "work" from MF and up; but I have not tried it with compression drivers/high gain/LF.Thanks for sharing.Best regards,Paul S...

Some drivers have a rising db curve from low to high frequencies. The horn may help with flattening the FR. If the FR of a given coaxial compression driver is flat, I would agree with your conclusion....

It is very easy to figure out acoustically. Feed the drivers and their crossover with a reference tone of fixed amplitude and fixed frequency, roughly in the middle of crossover point. Disconnect one of the drivers and measure the acoustic pressure e...

Gordan, I think you are missing the accent of what I meant to say. The Class A or not is not important for compression drivers and the S3 in particularly. I mean it is important and it much be ONLY class A but I do not see any SS amps switching in cl...

BTW, to illustrate my point. Here is typical Goto inhalation. In fact this is the better among others as to be typical the MF divers need to be lined up horizontally. I can hardly believe a person needed to be more Moron to voluntary arrange drivers ...
